The Red Sea Retreat

The Ummahat Retreat Competition Redefining the typology of the desert resort. A dialogue between raw matter and the ephemeral desert landscape. Our proposal envisions a sanctuary where architecture does not dominate the dunes, but emerges from them. The circular concrete massing acts as a shield against the harsh sun, creating a protected microclimate within. The "Parametric Bamboo" roof system acts as a passive environmental modulator, creating a breathable skin that reduces the thermal load on the monolithic concrete core below. This project explores the intersection of vernacular wisdom and computational design. Designed as a sequence of sensory thresholds: from the blinding white sand to the cool, dark concrete interiors, finally opening up to the infinite turquoise horizon. An inhabited topography carved into the hillside. The project extends the region’s ancient terraces, transforming them into a sequence of horizontal planes—stone, green roofs, and water—that merge with the slope, leaving the lake as the protagonist.
